About our Guests:
Grog the Zombie is new to the educational video scene. He used to be a busboy at an Applebee’s in Cozumel. That was where he met Toby Price aka Toby-Wan Kenobi who taught Grog two important things. The first, different doesn’t mean less. The second is that anyone has to the power to create something that could change the world. So even though Grog is a scary, yet friendly Zombie, he is on a mission with the help of his best friend Sheep, to teach and encourage kids everywhere that no matter how different you are you can create something that can change the world.
Darin Johnston comes from a long line of teachers. His father and aunt were thirty two year veterans of the educational field, and Darin knew that education would be his calling. What he didn’t know, what that his place would be in an elementary school setting. His first experiences came in a combination classroom of second and third graders. After, elementary school is where he would be found.
He currently holds a Master’s of Education and his educational goals include furthering his understand in the Daily 5 and CAFE techniques along with working towards a reading endorsement. In sixteen years, Darin has taught at all levels, K – 12, been a technology coordinator and a technology assistant. His teach career has carried him from Minnesota to Alaska to his current position as a fifth grade literacy and science teacher in Northeast Iowa.
Darin lives on an acreage with his wife, Melissa, a Professional Development Specialist for the area Head Start classrooms, two daughters aged 11 and 13, and an assortment of barnyard types of animals. When school is not in session, Darin can be found outside tending to his garden, running his girls to swim practice, or enjoying an evening out with his wife.
