Jeff sits down with 15 year old Stephen Oro to discuss his budding career as an app developer. Stephen is the creator of iPeters and Family Road Games. We discuss how his apps are changing his school environment and bring teachers and students together.

Stephen Oro is a young app developer from New Jersey who has created two apps, both now out on the iTunes Store. He is a member of The New Jersey School of Archery (a Junior Olympic Archery Development program), plays the piano in the Saint Peter’s Prep High School Jazz band, plays on his school’s volleyball team, and has participated in the Toastmasters International program. His first app, iPeters, allows the school community to access various school web resources. His first paid app, Family Road Games, provides nine games to play on road trips with family and friends. It includes scoring mechanisms. Currently, he is working to create utility apps that allow their users to easily create media. He is also working to make enjoyable platform based games. He learned to create games with Game Maker and then moved on to learn C++. Stephen then taught himself to code in Objective-C and began to create apps. He has presented during a session at PadCamp (a free unconference) to show teachers how they were positively affecting student development. Over the next year, he plans to start an app development club at his school and will be posting the tutorials he makes to teach his fellow students on his personal website:www.StephenOro.com.
